“Bé hem dinat”
Calvià

A place of legend!

Today Bendinat is a residential area with villas, a golf course and numerous restaurants and other facilities. According to legend, King James the Conqueror camped there after landing on the island and he was offered a meal of bread soup, olives and garlic. It was a frugal dinner, but when he had finished, he exclaimed: Bé hem dinat (How well we have eaten!), hence the name of this place, Bendinat. Bendinat Castle can also be seen there. This neo-Gothic building was commissioned by the Marquis de la Romana in the 19th century, imitating the architecture of many Central European castles.
