Saracen Blood
Alaró

A place of legend!

When the sun goes down, the rocky crags near Alaró Castle take on a special appeal as they become tinged with red. According to legend, this colour reflects the blood that was shed during the awful battle that took place when Majorca was conquered by King James’ troops. Alaró Castle was one of the last strongholds where the Saracens took refuge prior to their defeat by Catalan troops. Another vestige of King James’ presence is the footprint of his horse on one of the stones beside the gate in the castle walls.
