Es Caló del Rei
Artà

A place of legend!

After having conquered Majorca, King James set off for Barcelona, but he was forced to return because a group of Moors in the Artà mountains, where Colònia de Sant Pere now is, refused to given in. At the point where the ship turned round, the king made the sign of the cross in the water with his sword. Immediately a broad flat path opened up before him which stretched to Caló de Betlem, allowing him to get there on foot with his troops. A very flat stone can still be found in Es Caló where the king is said to have landed.
