A thalweg is a stretch of land of differing dimensions between two pieces of higher ground. That’s why some thalwegs bear the word “hell” in their name, because as you walk along them, you really do seem to be entering the gates of hell: the wind gusts and it’s hot, silent and isolated. Might we really be entering the devil’s own home?
