Fonoi's Leap
Alaró

A place of legend!

Do you know the meaning of fer l’ullastre esbrancat? It means to do a headstand. That is what a man from Alaró called Fonoi bet he could do for one hour on the top of S’Orengar crag, one of the most dangerous crags by Alaró Castle. When the hour was about to end, one of those who was about to lose his bet pushed him over and Fonoi lost  his life. Since then, the place has been known as Fonoi’s Leap and poems and songs have even been written about the brave man’s unfortunate end.

“When good sense is no companion,
brave courage is wasted;
he who tempts God, exposes himself;
and he who loves danger, succumbs.”
