A place of legend!

Do you believe in miracles? Madò Marca's miracle is a truly incredible one! Madò Marca lived in the Llotja district of Palma. She was a blind old lady, the widow of a skipper. The little lady was firmly convinced that she would recover her sight if she rubbed a splinter of wood from the cross on which Jesus had been crucified across her eyes. One day, she found out that a ship was about to depart for the Holy Land and she commissioned one of the sailors with bringing her a little sliver of wood from the relic. He promised to do so but then, sometime later, he forgot. When he returned to Majorca, he saw Madò Marca in the harbour, waiting to collect her splinter of wood. He didn’t dare let her down and so he gave her a splinter of wood from the boat. She immediately rubbed the false relic across her eyes and, miraculously, her eyesight was restored! The sailor exclaimed “It’s not the ship’s wood but Madò Marca’s faith”, meaning that objects don’t work miracles. It’s all a question of faith.
