A place of legend!

The town of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar gradually grew up around a small church built in the place where a young shepherd had found a statue of the Virgin. Arnau was putting his sheep out to graze when he found a statue of the Virgin. On two occasions, he tried to take it to Son Vives estate as a gift for the owner’s wife, but each time the statue returned to the place where he had found it. The stone that the Virgin holds in her hand is said to have been thrown at her by Arnau in an attack of anger for having to go backward and forward. The Virgin dodged the blow and caught the stone in her hand and Arnau ran to tell the people on the estate what had happened. They had a church built on the site and, in time, the town of Sant Llorenç grew up.
