A movie landmark!

The Magus. 1968

Although the plot takes place on a Greek island, this film starring Michael Caine, Anthony Quinn, Anna Karina and Candice Bergen, was shot in Majorca. It made a big impact on the residents of the place where one scene was filmed, Portals Vells II cove (Calvià), whose name was changed to Playa del Mago. Unlike the original novel by John Fowles, the film was a failure with the public and critics alike. Woody Allen is supposed to have said that if he lived his life again, he would do “everything exactly the same, with the exception of watching The Magus”.
