A thousand trails of golden dust

until your winged milestone

have taken us, from here

of this wing broken life,

to Santa María del Camí.

 

On a praise fog,

from Catalonia up to here

willingly you opened the race,

Gentle and navy blue,

Santa María del Camí,

 

and you no longer know what you love

more, if the green and sound valley

from Coanegra where I was nourished

or the page that adores you,

Santa María del Camí,

 

full of vines, sheaves and leaves,

That kisses your feet as a garden.

(Santa Maria del Camí, 1912 – Madrid, 1994). Miquel Dolç i Dolç was a poet, critic and translator. Having completed ecclesiastical studies in Rome and Sicily, he then returned to Mallorca in order to pursue his studies, graduate in Barcelona and obtain a PhD in Madrid. As a literary critic he has written about several authors as well as translating Virgil, Tacitus, Ovid and other classical authors into Catalan. His first work was entitled El somni encetat (1943) and was followed by Elegies de Guerra (1948), Flama (1962), Imago mundi (1973) or Sàtires i epigrames (1994). In the poem collection L´ombra que s´allarga (1984) he dedicates his poems to his hometown Santa Maria del Camí.
