In the autumn of 1229, King James’ troops reached Majorca. They gradually advanced from the west toward the city of Palma. In Almudaina Palace, Abu Yahia, the wali, organized the island’s defence. He feared for his land and for his people. Fatima, his daughter, was about to marry a rich Moslem. She had her dowry all prepared, with jewels and other treasures safely guarded in splendid chests. To protect his daughter, the wali decided to hide her in the isolated Tramuntana mountains until the day of his victory...
