"Bernat was a lad from Valldemossa who had been kidnapped by the Moors when he was young and enslaved in Africa. One day they sold him to a kind old blind qadi. Seeing how sad the old man felt because he was unable to see, Bernat felt sorry for him and he told him of a miraculous herb that grew on a mountain near his hometown. No one knew what it was like, when it flowered or when it shed its seeds, but when any object that had come into contact with the herb was placed against a wound, it was instantly cured..."
